From Press Release

HEADstrong founder Nicholas Colleluori had an unyielding desire to return to the playing field after he was terminally diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005, but he never had the chance.

Colleluori lost his courageous and untimely battle in 2006 at age of 21. Over the past 9 years college lacrosse teams have taken the field to honor their fallen brother by participating in the Nicholas Colleluori Classic, held each October. This year HEADstrong Foundation expanded their collegiate fall event series to include new events in Philadelphia, Long Island and Baltimore with the purpose of raising funds to improve quality of life for those affected by cancer.Headstrong

The HEADstrong Foundation is proud to announce details surrounding the Nicholas Colleluori Classic Long Island, which will take place on Saturday, October 10th at James M. Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University.

Embracing the ever shifting dynamics of collegiate fall lacrosse, the organization was inspired to create a more intimate format allowing for a more productive experience for participating teams while allowing for HEADstrong to rejuvenate, collaborate and maximize its reach in the biggest lacrosse markets in the country. With Hofstra University being HEADstrong founder Nicholas Colleluori’s alma mater, James M. Shuart Stadium provided by perfect venue and opportunity for the organization to engage a broader audience.

This year’s inaugural line-up will feature four Division 1 men’s lacrosse teams including: Dartmouth College, Hofstra University, Lafayette College and Quinnipiac University.

HEADstrong will honor heroes and their families at the event presenting grants and gifts from the organization intended to improve their quality of life. HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom Cheryl Colleluori will also present the prestigious Nicholas Colleluori Award to a member from each program whose contributions both on and off the field are transforming the landscape of their represented program.

HEADstrong will have an awareness station onsite featuring the latest in HF awareness merchandise and apparel with 100% of the proceeds supporting the mission. Additionally, a $5.00 charitable donation will be asked in lieu of admission.

“We are very honored to be hosting this expansion of the Nicholas Colleluori Classic at Hofstra University this year. The school and athletic program hold a very special place in our hearts and we consider them part of the HEADstrong family. Hofstra meant so much to our Nick and we are looking forward to sharing his legacy with our participating teams. This year’s events are all about maximizing impact on behalf of those families who are fighting this terrible disease. The outcry of support has been overwhelming and we wish to extend an invitation to the Long Island lacrosse community to experience HEADstrong’s impact along with great day of fall lacrosse competition with proceeds supporting our essential programs and services. On behalf of the HEADstrong Foundation™, the Colleluori family and our founder and my son, Nicholas, we wish to thank all of the participating teams for embracing our mission.” – Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom.
