Long Island dominated the draws behind Katie Hoeg and used precision passing as Jamie Ortega scored four goals, Ashley Lynch had three and Alex Di Chiara, Kerry Defliese and Shannon Kavanagh each had two.

Long Island goaltenders also excelled as Taylor Moreno posted seven saves and Charlotte Campbell had three.

“It’s amazing we all love lacrosse and we came to play today,” said Hoeg, a Mattituck 2016 midfielder committed to North Carolina. “We really executed on the field and it’s really good to see players from all travel teams and high schools come together and represent Long Island.”

Hoeg said the team picked up its game after Saturday’s tie with Massachusetts/Rhode Island/

“I think we really should have beaten them; we held back a little, but in the playoffs we tried to prove we were the best team,” she said.

Ortega, a 2017 midfielder from Middle Country also committed to North Carolina, agreed: “I think it (the tie) was an eye opener. Before that we had not had any close games. We realized that today we knew what we had to do. We had such great connection with each other; I knew where everybody would be.”

Long Island co-coach Megan McCormack was thrilled with her team’s performance.

“They’re a great group and they worked really well all weekend,” she said. “They pushed each other and knew where each other were on the field. Every single one got the job done.”

Maria Auth had two goals to lead Baltimore.
