Kasey Mitchell collected six goals, one assist and nine draw controls Friday to lead host Mt. Sinai (N.Y.) to a 14-7 victory over Bayport-Blue Point in a rematch of last year’s Suffolk County Class C championship game.

The Mustangs, who won the New York Class C state title in 2013, had their 37-game win streak snapped in that 11-9 loss to Bayport last year.

This game, Mt. Sinai broke open a 4-4 game with five of the next six goals before halftime and were never threatened.

“Right now we are taking one game at a time and not worrying about hype or rankings,” said Mt. Sinai coach Al Bertolone. “We just want to win that day.

“Hats off to Bayport for the game last year. This is a win for round 1, but there is too much left in the year to put too much into this win.”

Sydney Pirreca added three goals and two assists for the Mustangs and Jessica Demeo had three goals and one assist while Cameron Harloff and Megan Tyrrell each had a goal and two assists. Sophomore goalie Hannah VanMiddelem made eight saves.

For Bayport Cassidy Weeks had two goals and an assist and Kayla Zapolski added a goal and an assist. Nicole Copping, Kelly Young and Kerrigan Miller each scored once.

“Kasey had a big game and Sydney Pirreca controlled the middle of the field and played really well,” said Bertolone.

“Last year (the loss to Bayport) can stick with you. They played really well; sometimes you just get beat.

“We lost a few top players from our 2014 team, but two attackers have stepped up and steppe in and the sophomores and freshmen are being brought along by the older kids. They are not playing like 9th graders.”
