FEASTERVILLE, Pa. – Though Logan Danenza considers outdoor lacrosse his priority, he takes the indoor game seriously.

“This game helps me tune up my stick skills,” said Danenza, a defender with Team 91, from Long, Island, N.Y. “It keeps me in shape, is a lot of fun and very team oriented.”

Teammate Casey Kimmel says the box game is growing on him.

“This game is pretty fast,” said Kimmel. “And there’s no standing around. I’m sure it will help me prepare for the outdoor season.”

Though Team 91 lost Saturday to three-time champion Everest Academy (Ontario) in the semifinals of the High School AA division of the NXT Events Philadelphia Indoor Lacrosse Championships in suburban Philadelphia, Team 91 made coach George Breres pleased.

“I’m proud of our guys,” said Breres, whose team has won two of its three indoor tournaments this season. “They respect the box (lacrosse) game, and were able to compete at a high level. We were competitive against every team we played.”

In the semifinals, Team 91 built a 4-2 halftime lead against powerful Everest Academy, which rallied to win and then toppled NXT 2016, 6-5, in the finals.

“We came out flat in the second half,” Benes said. “You can’t win if you don’t score.”

Danenza (St. Anrhony’s, 2016 High Point commit) and Kimmel (Massapequa, 2016 Towson commit) are just two of eight Team 91 players recently named to the USBOXLA U18 Tour team that will compete for eight days in a special tour to Vancouver, B.C. this summer.

“I look forward to competing against the best box lacrosse competition out there,” said Danenza, a defender from St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, N.Y.

Breres said it’s an honor that eight members of his team were selected for the team.

“It’s a great badge for those players to be recognized,” the coach said. “I’m proud of them for the accomplishment.”
