The Brine Long Island regional tryouts for boys will be dedicated to the memory of Coach Chris Deeks, who touched the lives of students and athletes at four schools, teaching social studies and coaching lacrosse and football.

Coach Deeks’ lifelong motto was “leave a footprint.”

He left his footprint through sports and the Brine National Lacrosse Classic.

Coach Deeks attended Hofstra University where he played on the 1970 football team and the lacrosse team from 1971 to 1974. He graduated from Hofstra in 1976 with a degree in sociology, a minor in secondary education and math and graduate credits in educational administration.

Coach Deeks’ passion for lacrosse extended beyond the high school level. He coached in the Floral Park Youth Lacrosse program and would organize games for players who did not get to play on all-star teams.

Chris Deeks was much more than a teacher and coach, he was a son, husband, father and friend. He passed one year ago on August 30, 2013.
