Mt. Sinai 2016 goalie Samantha Croston has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Colgate University.

Samantha Croston log:

Samantha Croston

Samantha Croston

High School: Mt. Sinai High School

Graduation Year: 2016

Position: Goalie

College Choice: Colgate

Club Affiliation: Long Island Yellow Jackets

Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams, Camps, Showcases: Long Island All-American Suffolk team, Brine Pride of Long Island Tournament, Top of the Class Camp All-Star team, Game On UConn camp All-Star team

Academic honors, service projects: two-year varsity scholar athlete award, National Junior Honor Society, High Honor Roll freshman and Sophomore years, Superintendent’s List Freshman and Sophomore years

What will you major in/study? “As of right now I like psychology, sports psychology in particular.”

Why did you choose the school? “I chose Colgate because it had everything that is important to me. I was very fond of the fact that it is a liberal arts university, because I think that will give me a well-rounded education. In addition, Colgate is a member of the Patriot League. I liked this, in particular, because the Patriot League places importance on admitting competitive athletes who are also academically at the top of their class. I really connected with the coaches, especially the goalie coach Caitlin Fitzpatrick and I can tell that my game will improve under her guidance. The location, weather, and size of the school also positively impacted my decision.”

Thoughts on this past HS lacrosse season/team’s outlook for next season? “The season ended on a sour note, coming off of a 38-game winning streak to lose in the counties, but I think it has really motivated us to train hard in the off season to come back with a vengeance next season. We have a lot of girls who are really hard working and motivated to succeed and willing to do what it takes to be victorious next year. I think losing that game made us all realize how much we hated the way that felt and we want to try and make sure it won’t happen again.”

Other comments: “One person in particular I would like to thank is Pete Mitchell, my goalie trainer and so much more. Thank you for making me a better goalie and a better individual, as well as being there to comfort me when I am low as well as celebrate with me when I have reached my goals. You have brought to me a whole new meaning and perspective of lacrosse and I am so grateful for all that you have done for me and that I have been able to learn so much from you.”

Other schools considered? Jacksonville, Harvard, UConn and Lehigh
