From US Lacrosse Press Release
After a three-day tryout that included 110 players at Stevenson University, US Lacrosse today announced the 25-player training roster for the U.S. Women’s National Under-19 Team.
The tryout saw players from 18 states competing for spots on the team that will go for a fifth world title at the 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championship, July 23-Aug. 1 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The U.S. has claimed the past four gold medals in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011, most recently defeating Australia 14-11 in Hannover, Germany in July 2011. Ultimately, 18 of the 25 players selected today will represent the U.S. in Edinburgh next summer.
Players were chosen by an 11-player selection committee led by head coach Kim Simons (Bryn Mawr [Md.] School) and selection chair Liz Kittleman (Columbia University). Among other selectors were U.S. U19 assistant coaches Michele DeJuliis, Bowen Holden and Wendy Kridel, as well as U.S. senior team head coach Ricky Fried and assistant coach Liz Robertshaw.
“We were unbelievably impressed by the talent level and effort level of the girls from top to bottom,” said head coach Kim Simons. “These players have gone through a number of tryouts just to get to this point. The staff has done a really incredible job of selecting the best 25 players for our training squad.”
