Men’s recruits: Marist adds six from Long Island in Class of 2018

The Marist men’s lacrosse team and head coach Keegan Wilkinson have announced the addition of 10 players to the roster for the 2015 season. The Red Foxes come to Poughkeepsie from New York, North Carolina and Ohio.

“We are thrilled to welcome this talented group of student athletes to the Marist Lacrosse family,” said Wilkinson. “Our staff could not be more excited to work with this group of players. I must recognize the hard work of my assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Mike Gongas. His dedication and passion was an integral part of putting together another excellent recruiting class. This incoming class along with our returning players will work very hard to impress all in the Marist community both on and off the lacrosse field.”

Billy Andrle | Defense – 5’11 – 225 – East Meadow, N.Y. – East Meadow

Andrle comes to Marist as a defender following four years of lacrosse and football at East Meadow. Andrle, a two-time team captain, earned All-County Honorable Mention his senior year following 60 ground balls, two goals and four assists as a defenseman. He was a member of the Nassau County All-Star Team in 2011, 2012, and 2013 alongside All-Conference honors in 2013. Andrle was also named a Newsday Top 100 Lacrosse Player on Long Island. Andrle was named the top football player in Nassau County in 2012 in addition to All-County, All-Long Island, All-State, and All-Metro honors throughout his career. Andrle played on the U15 Lacrosse National Tournament Team. He has been a member of the scholastic honor roll all four years.

Michael DeLuca | LSM – 5’8 – 155 – Huntington, N.Y. – St. Anthony’s

DeLuca joins Marist as an LSM after playing four years of lacrosse and one year of football at St. Anthony’s in New York. He finished his career with 10 goals, 17 assists, and 267 ground balls. DeLuca was an All-League Long Stick Midfielder his senior year. St. Anthony’s. In 2014, St. Anthony’s was the CHSAA runner-up. He also was a captain on the lacrosse freshman team and NYSCHSAA – AAA Division State semi-finalist when he was on JV and varsity. DeLuca was invited to the All-Star Top 205, All-Star Top 225, and All-Star Prep Showcase. He received the Dun Scotus Certificate and was named to the honor roll in high school. DeLuca’s dad played hockey at Pace University.

Jack Korber | Midfield – 5’7 – 165 – Massapequa, N.Y. – Massapequa

Korber joins the Red Foxes following four years of football and lacrosse at Massapequa. As team captain his senior year, Korber led his team to a State Championship, Long Island Championship, and County Championship. He received the Massapequa High School Athletics Medallion and the Margaret Callahan Leadership Award from Massapequa High School for outstanding leadership and excellence in the classroom. Korber was an All-County Honorable Mention and a Newsday Top 100 Lacrosse Player on Long Island. He was also an All-County, Honorable Mention All-State, Second Team All-Long Island and MSG Varsity Top 100 Football player at Massapequa. His sister, Emily, plays soccer at Lehigh.

Liam Walsh | Midfield – 6’2 – 200 – Miller Place, N.Y. – Miller Place

Walsh joins the Red Foxes’ midfield following four years of lacrosse, basketball, and football. During his senior season of lacrosse, Walsh was a team captain, All-County, All-Division, Newsday Top 100 Lacrosse Player on Long Island honoree, and earned both the Most Driven Player and Unsung Hero awards for Miller Place. He finished his career with 64 goals and 24 assists for 88 points. His team won the Suffolk County Lacrosse Championship in 2013. Walsh participated in the Peak 200 All-Star camp in 2012 and won numerous tournaments including; Maverick Big Time Shootout, NXT Summer Invitational, and the Bitter Stowe Showcase. Walsh is a member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language National Honor Society. Walsh also earned All-Division First Team honors in football with over 1,000 all purpose yards and 12 touchdowns, and was a captain of the basketball team. His father played lacrosse at Fairfield University.

Brett Osman | Defense – 6’0 – 180 – Miller Place, N.Y. – Miller Place

Osman comes to Marist following four years of lacrosse and football at Miller Place. Osman was a team captain and All-County defenseman his senior year, leading his team to an appearance in the Suffolk County Championship game for the second consecutive year. He was named a Newsday Top 100 Lacrosse Player on Long Island in 2014. In 2013, Osman earned the Lax Leadership Award and nomination as the Suffolk County Rising Senior All-Star. He finished his career with four assists and 90 ground balls. Osman enjoyed a successful football career as well, receiving Second Team All-State, Second Team All-Long Island, and First Team All-County honors as team captain and running back his senior year. He set Miller Place single season records with 2,115 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns. Osman participated in the Champ Camp at Loyola in 2011, UMass Amherst Tournament Champs in 2012, Peak 200 All-Star team in 2012, Long Island Lax Showcase Count Champs in 2013, and Suffolk County Lax Champions in 2013.

Kyle Quinn | Midfield – 5’10 – 160 – Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Kellenberg Memorial

Quinn will join the Red Foxes’ midfield following four years of lacrosse and basketball and two years of football. Quinn earned All-League honors in lacrosse following 34 goals and 26 assists his senior year. He was named the MVP of the Long Island AA Championship Game and the MVP of the NY State AA Championship game after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. Quinn also earned All-League honors in basketball. He participated in the Top 205 All-Star Game twice, Nike Blue Chip 225 All-Star Game twice, Maverik Showtime, and Long Island Under Armor Top 40 Game in 2013. His sister, Maeve, plays lacrosse at Fairfield.

David Meyer | Goalie – 6’1 – 175 – Summerfield, N.C. – Northern Guilford

Meyer comes to Marist after four years in the net on the varsity lacrosse team at Northern Guilford. Meyer enjoyed a very successful senior season. He earned team MVP and team GPA honors alongside being a team captain for the second consecutive year. Meyer was also named All-Conference, Defensive Player of the Year, Triad All-Area Team, Triad Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, First Team All-State, a two-time US Lacrosse High School All-American and North Carolina Great 38 game participant. He finished his senior year with a save percentage of 80 percent. In addition, Meyer participated in the Champ Camp, Legacy Tournament, Philly Showcase, 2014 Fab 40 All-Star Game MVP, and UMass Mid-Summer Classic. Meyer is a Junior Marshall, member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and was named Student-Athlete of the Month.

Gannon Morrison | Attack – 6’2 – 175 – Cary, N.C. – Cardinal Gibbons

Morrison comes to Marist following four years of varsity lacrosse at Cardinal Gibbons High School in North Carolina. Morrison is coming off a highly successful senior year after leading his team to the North Carolina State Championship as team captain. He was named All-American, First Team All-State, First Team All-Conference, and Conference Player of the Year. He finished his season with 57 goals and 71 assists for 128 points. Morrison has 384 career points and led his team in points all four seasons. He was also the North Carolina Great 38 All-Star Game Offensive MVP following six goals and two assists in the game. Other accomplishments Morrison has on his resume include: 2011 State Championship runner-up, 2012 Honorable Mention All-State, Third Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference, 2013 First Team All-State, First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference and US Lacrosse High School All-American. Morrison participated in camps and tournaments including: Jake Reed, Top 205, National Invitational 175, and the Gait Cup All-Star game. He is a member of the National Honor Society.

Tyler O’Brien | Attack – 5’11 – 180 – Chagrin Falls, Ohio – Chagrin Falls

O’Brien joins the Red Foxes from Chagrin Falls, Ohio after participating in lacrosse, soccer, and football. O’Brien, team captain and Brine High School All-America, helped lead his team to the State Championship game his senior year. He finished his high school career with 180 goals and 59 assists. O’Brien was a member of the 3.0 Club at Chagrin Falls. His dad, Tony, is an ice hockey referee for several leagues, including the NHL, CHL, and AHL.

Mitchell Standera | Midfield – 5’11 – 177 – Penfield, N.Y. – Penfield

Standera comes to Marist following four years of varsity lacrosse and two years of soccer and basketball. During his senior season, Standera was a team captain, First Team All-County, Second Team All-Section V alongside 22 goals and 41 assists. He finished his career with 50 goals and 91 assists. Standera was the 2013 Section V Tournament MVP and Monroe County Division I All-League First Team. Some of his camp and tournament honors include: 2013 Brine National High School All-American Team, Blaze Elite Team, Champion of the MVP Tournament at the University of Delaware in 2013, and the Nike Blue Chip in 2012 and 2013. Standera is a member of the National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, and NYS Scholar Athlete. His sister, Stephanie, played field hockey at the College of Wooster while his other sister, Nikki, plays lacrosse at Ithaca.
