CORTLAND, N.Y. – Molly Wood scored the game-winner with two seconds left as Skaneateles edged Cold Spring Harbor, 12-11, Saturday to win the New York Class C girls’ lacrosse championship at Cortland State.
The winning goal was scored after Skaneateles gained possession with five minutes left after a failed free position shot by Cold Spring Harbor. The Lakers held the ball for the final shot and after a big scrum in front of the goal, Wood pounced on the loose ball and tucked it in at point-blank range.
Hannah Powers led Section 3 champion Skaneateles with five goals and Casey Vanslyke had two goals and an assist while Alana Navaroli scored twice.
The game featured six ties and Powers scored three straight to tie it, 8-8, after Cold Spring Harbor seemingly had taken the momentum.
Brooke Jensen led Section 8 champion Cold Spring Harbor (14-6) with three goals and an assist and Holly Logan had two goals and two assists. Ashley Lynch added two goals and one assists and Lindsey Willcocks and Tara Atkinson each scored twice.
