Michael Dedvukaj scored three goals and Luke Palmadesso stood out at the face-off X to lead Yorktown to a 9-6 victory over Lynbrook Wednesday in the New York State Class B semifinals at Hofstra University.
Section 1 champion Yorktown (17-5) will face Jamesville-Dewitt (19-2) in the finals saturday at Hofstra at 1:30 p.m. Jamesville-Dewitt rallied past Victor, 17-13, coming back from a 10-5 halftime deficit.
Yorktown won a battle decided at the faceoff X, where Palmadesso dominated. The Villanova-bound senior defeated Lynbrook’s Owen Daly in 14 out of the game’s 19 faceoffs. Palmadesso also picked up 12 ground balls – the highest total for either side.
“I had a good warm-up there, and I watched a lot of film,” said Palmadesso. “Once I got down there though, I just trusted my preparation.”
“Luke is a great worker and great captain,” said Yorktown head coach David Marr. “He’s one of the best players we’ve ever had at this program, so he will be very much missed next year.”
Equally dominant was Dedvukaj, who scored two goals in the second quarter and another in the third. The three straight points helped Yorktown take an 8-4 lead.
“We knew we had to score. That’s the only way we could beat them, because they can score too,” said Dedvukaj. “That third quarter really helped us.”
For Marr, the win was typical of a team that has thrived in the second half.
“We’ve been a second half team all year,” said Marr. “It’s because we usually play more guys than the other team, so we can wear them down.”
Lynbrook (19-2) did have some stellar performances. On offense, Joe Grossi scored four goals and an defense, Eddie Bouhall led the team in groundballs (five) and turnovers caused (four). And in goal, Brendan McDougal finished with 8 saves.
