Cold Spring Harbor took a 12-11 OT lead on a tally by Tara Atkinson with 2:27 remaining in the first extra frame. Nicole Copping evened the score at 12-12, but Kotowski converted with 11 seconds remaining and the Seahawks’ defense held in the second frame.

DeBellis was the offensive star as she used strong cuts to and speed to receive the ball and find open space.

“We knew they were going to come out with a zone, so we practiced ball movement,” said Cold Spring Harbor head coach Danielle Skakandi. “It’s a testament to the rest of the girls for moving and giving her the ball.”

“We knew we had to move the ball all game, so I could not have done it without my teammates,” added DeBellis. “Possession was the biggest part of this game. We knew we had to win the draws.”

Brooke Jensen went 15-for-24 on face-offs in her first game back from having her appendix removed a month ago. Jensen finished with two goals, including one with 38 seconds remaining in the second half to bring the Seahawks even.

“Brooke is back,” said Skakandi. “She’s a true athlete. She has hustle, heart and athleticism like no other.”

It was a game of runs, and two key timeouts from Skakandi proved vital to the Seahawks win. The first occurred after Bayport-Blue Point was up 3-2 – Cold Spring Harbor went on to score three straight goals. The second crucial timeout occurred with 1:44 left in the second overtime period. Jensen was double-teamed while trying to run clock and Skakandi bailed out her junior star with a timeout.

Cassie Stucklen had four goals and two assists while Julia Imbo added three goals and one assist for Bayport-Blue Point (14-4).

With 12 seconds remaining, a Bayport-Blue Point false start in the Cold Spring Harbor zone set up a chance for the Seahawks to run out the clock. When the ball was loose with :01 on the clock, a crash for the ball ensued in the Phantom offensive zone.

“I knew the game would be tight and it would come to the final whistle – it’s all we talked about at halftime,” said Skakandi.
