“Having an undefeated season, we made history at West Islip and I’m honored to play at West Islip,” said Hill. “This is unbelievable. Four years of being on varsity, losing in the semis three years in a row, finally breaking that curse and winning our first ever county championship is an unreal feeling.

“Being undefeated, everyone is after you and we have a target on our backs. But having that pressure motivates us. That is how we got here today.”

Hauppauge (14-4), which fell to West Islip, 12-11, in overtime on May 9, took a 2-1 lead Thursday. But the Lions went on a 6-0 run to take control.

Hauppauge did rally within two goals midway through the second half, but Lena Riportella scored a key goal to seal it. Lindsay Darrell added two goals and one assist and Shannon McFadden grabbed eight saves for West Islip.

“This feels awesome,” said West Islip head coach Joe Nicolosi. “These girls are exciting, hard workers. They come to practice every day and they want it. The bottom line is that they did it. This is amazing.

“This was a goal of our team. As a coach you always love to win like this and you can’t do it with a bunch of better kids like we just did it.”

Dara Poulin tallied three goals, Carly Tellekamp tallied two goals and one assist and Tori Johnston grabbed nine saves for Hauppauge.

“We didn’t come out to play in the first half,” said Hauppauge head coach Diana Lopez. “If we came out to play in the first half the outcome might have been different.”
