Jack Sullivan scored three goals and Patrick Dallon had 14 saves to lead Rocky Point to a 6-4 victory over Miller Place tonight in the Suffolk County Class B Finals at Stony Brook University.
Rocky Point (18-1) will face Lynbrook (18-1) in the Long Island Championship Saturday (3:30 p.m.) at Hofstra.
“The kids played well – especially defensively. That was a big difference in the game,” said Rocky Point head coach Mike Bowler. “Our goalie, Pat Dallon, played out of his mind. He really played well.”
For the second straight game, Dallon was a force in net. In the first half, Dallon gave up just one goal as the Eagles down Miller Place for the second time in two weeks.
“It’s a great feeling. It’s always hard to beat a team twice,” said Dallon. “They are a very talented team too, so it was a great win for us.”
Although Miller Place played quality defense of their own, it was not enough. Brett Osman shut down Albany-commit Justin Reh from recording a single point. Rocky Point, however, relied on other offensive weapons – namely Sullivan.
While Sullivan did not have his typical game at the faceoff X, he made up for his performance on offense.
“If there was a fight, I’d rather Jack Sullivan in my corner than anyone else,” said Bowler. “He’s a tough, hard-nosed kid.”
Bowler said his team – just 6-10 a year ago – set a goal of winning a county championship.
“At the beginning of the year, this was their goal – to win this game,” he said. “And that’s what we did. We got here and won this game.”
