Julia Glynn tallied five goals and four assists to spark Manhasset to a dominating 15-8 victory over Wantagh today for its second straight Nassau County Class B Championship at Adelphi University.
Manhasset (16-1) advances to the Long Island championship game Sunday at Dowling Sports Complex to face the winner of Thursday’s Suffolk County title game between Eastport-South Manor and Sayville.
“This was a big win for us,” said Glynn. “We came out here with all our hearts. We were really excited coming into the game and got off to a great lead.
“Everyone played together as a unit. We are confident in this team; we have a really strong bond and a lot of talent so hopefully we can get to States.”
Manhasset started the game on a 5-0 run with Glynn contributing three goals and two assists. Wantagh (12-5) scored two quick goals, but Manhasset answered by going on a 5-0 run for a commanding 10-2 with 5:23 left in the first half.
Kathryn Hallet tallied five goals, Emily Koufakis tallied two goals and one assist and Erin Coleman grabbed nine saves for Manhasset.
“The kids came out to play,” said Manhasset head coach Danielle Gallagher. “It’s always good when your kids are ready and fired up.
“I think the first goal fired everyone up and the just kept putting them in. It helps when you get on rolls. Wantagh had a couple of rolls but we were able to stymie them. Julia (Glynn) did an awesome job both offensively and defensively. Everybody just stepped up today. If we can play like we did today and play as a team, we can beat anybody.”
Paige Craig and Madison Conway tallied three goals each for Wantagh.
“Our girls fought hard,” said Wantagh head coach Jaclyn Coyne. “Manhasset is a great team. It just wasn’t our day today. I’m super proud of my girls. They fought until the end.”
