“We came out pumped; we always have to get pumped before the game,” said Piciullo. If we don’t, we won’t come out as strong.”

There was no problem getting ready for this game. West Islip led 2-0 after four minutes and soon went on a 7-0 surge to seize a 9-1 lead.

The Lions controlled the draws, winning 15 out of 22 and never allowing Smithtown East to get its offense untracked. Riley Hill tallied four goals and one assist and Vanessa Costantino tallied three goals and one assist for West Islip.

“I think today’s game went well,” said West Islip head coach Joe Nicolosi. “I think we played a well-rounded game.

“The biggest part of our game was the draw control. We got the ball in the middle of the field and went right on offense, controlling the ball and taking care of the game that way. We have a great bunch of kids here and they are ready to work hard and try to conquer everything we can.”

Michelle Scannell scored three goals while Julia Smith and Annie Collins tallied one goal and one assist each for Smithtown East.

“West Islip is a good team,” said Smithtown East head coach Anne Naughton. “We are young and we had some up and downs today.

“We turned the ball over a lot, we didn’t get possession on the draw and we have to work on that. We had some good things happen out there, but we still have some work to do. West Islip did a good job today.”
