Connetquot junior attack Alix Lopez has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Florida.
Alix Lopez log:
High School: Connetquot
Graduation Year: 2015
College Choice: University of Florida
Club Affiliation: Long Island Top Guns 2015 Black
Major lacrosse honors: MVP of the Season, Coaches Award, Captains Award, All League, All Conference
Academic honors: High Honor Roll, Principal Honor Roll
What will you major in/study? “Education (I want to be a teacher and to coach). My dream job would be to be a Division 1 coach and start my own lacrosse program.”
Why did you choose the school? “I chose UF because of everything they had to offer me. I wanted to go to a team that would be able to compete for National Title and Florida is very capable of that. They have such an amazing campus and atmosphere. I loved all the coaches, and their passion for the game. For them to still stick with me through my ACL injury really meant a lot and showed me their loyalty. Not only is it my job to perform on the field, it is also important that I perform in the classroom. Florida makes education first and helps you excel in the classroom. Education is very significant and is my top priority. It’s an honor to be able to play for the University of Florida and to call myself a Gator!”
What is your team’s outlook for next season? “I am very excited for this upcoming season especially for my high school. It is my first time playing for them since my ACL injury. This year should be a good year and I can’t wait. With all the hard work we have put in as a team, we should make a name for ourselves. I have been counting down the days to step on the field and to play with my team.”
Other comments: “I would like to thank my friends and family who have been helping and supporting me through this incredible journey. A huge thanks to Xceleration Sports Training, which has helped me rehabilitate and continues to work with me to make me a healthier and stronger athlete; without them I would not be where I am. I would also like to thank my coaches, especially Steve Levy, who has made me the player I am today; and also Shannon Smith, who has greatly influenced me and taught me many things about lacrosse and life. My biggest thanks go to my parents who never stop giving to me and who inspire me every day.”
Other schools considered? Albany, Penn State, California and Towson.
