Wiomens’ recruits: Rich (Shoreham-Wading River), Moran (Eastport-South Manor) among signees for Kennesaw State

The Kennesaw State lacrosse team has officially signed 10 high school recruits in its 2014 class during the NCAA Letter of Intent signing period.

Head Coach Kristina Llanes and the Owls welcome in RoseAnna Schiemer, Laura Jordan, Elaine Bradley, Connor Zophy, Courtney Rich, Monica Albertson, Abigail Fitler, Allie Wright, Kaitlynn Moran and Emily Hallberg.

“Our staff is extremely excited about the way this class came together,” Llanes said. “Each athlete brings with them unique skill sets, which will compliment the existing personnel.”

RoseAnna Schiemer, a midfield standout at Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, North Carolina, helped lead her team to the 3A/4A North Piedmont Athletic Conference Championships at Lake Norman High School. She played several positions for her high school and won defensive MVP her junior year and the middle MVP her sophomore year. To go along with the MVP awards, she also earned first team All-Conference honors her freshman and sophomore years. Schiemer played on the Midwestern Force club team and will major in biology and minor in math in hopes of going to med school after her undergraduate years.

Llanes on Schiemer: “Roseanna will raise the bar in terms of communication and being more confident to pressure opponents.”

Laura Jordan, a midfielder from Atlanta, Georgia, plays on the George Walton Comprehensive School lacrosse team and the Eagle Stix club team. She was named to the Georgia All-State team her sophomore and junior years while also earning the defensive player of the year award her junior year where she won 74 draw controls and picked up 52 ground balls to lead her team.

Llanes on Jordan: “Laura will help us also in the midfield, but we see here contributing most on the defensive end.”

Elaine Bradley has been a starter in the goal since her freshman year at Alpharetta High School. She was named to the GA/AL National Team 1 in 2013 and Team 2 in 2012 and 2011. Bradley was also named a team captain in 2013. She plays on the Thunderbirds HX club team. Bradley is not only good on the field, but she was also an AP Scholar in 2013.

Llanes on Bradley: “Elaine will add to our goal keeping staff right away and her defensive communication will help our unit.”

Connor Zophy, a Westminister, Maryland native, helped lead Winters Mill High School to two state championships in 2011 and 2013 playing in the midfield. She is competing on the Check-Hers Elite 2014 club team and is the daughter of Pete and Heather Zophy.

Llanes on Zophy: “We will depend on Connor to break up plays in the midfield and continue smooth transition to the cage.”

Courtney Rich, a 5-7 attacker from Shoreham, New York Lettered on the varsity lacrosse team at Shoreham Wading River High School in 2013 and 2014. In club, she is a starter in the midfield and for draws on the Long Island Yellow Jackets. Rich plans to major in Exercise and Health Science and is the daughter of Ann and Alan Rich.

Llanes on Rich: “Courtney is a calm player who thrives from the contact in our sport and the opportunity to compete at a higher level.”

Monica Albertson, a midfielder from North Canton, Ohio, earned a spot on the second team All-Ohio lacrosse team and was named to the first team All-District team in the Federal League after her junior year. Albertson also is a highly successful athlete in tennis as she is ranked third in the state and to the All-County first team after her senior year. She has also been successful in the classroom as she has been on the honor roll all four years.

Llanes on Albertson: “Monica is a very competitive, multi-sport athlete who has self-discipline and will continue to grow her Lax IQ.”

Abigail Fitler, a midfielder from Braselton, Georgia, lettered in lacrosse, competitive cheerleading, and swimming at Mill Creek High School. Fitler won a state championship in competitive cheerleading in 2011 and was named a Junior Marshall in 2013.

Llanes on Fitler: “Abby is going to bring speed and enough positive energy to keep motivating those around her.”

Allie Wright, a midfielder from Birmingham, Michigan, has lettered her first three years in lacrosse at Seaholm High School. She won a state championship her sophomore year and was named to the Midwest All-Michigan team her junior year. Her club team is the Detroit Coyotes.

Llanes on Wright: “Allie will be a force on our attacking end as well as in the draw circle.”

Kaitlynn “KK” Moran
, a defender out of Manorville and Eastport-South Manor, New York, was named a 2011 Adidas National Lacrosse Classic All-American. She was a member of the 2012 and 2013 High School Division and County Champions. Moran plays on the Long Island Yellow Jackets club team. When she gets to Kennesaw State she plans on majoring in Psychology.

Llanes on Moran: “Kaitlynn will be joining Laura in the defensive unit, but with her strong sense to push in transition we can see her becoming a threat on the clear quickly.”

Emily Hallberg, a midfielder out of Dacula, Georgia and teammate of Abigail Fitler at Mill Creek High School, was selected to be a captain the last three years on the lacrosse team earning the rare distinction of being a captain as a sophomore. Hallberg is also the leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Mill Creek.

Llanes on Hallberg: “Emily is a versatile and fast midfielder who makes plays happen and will definitely raise the competition level in practice.”
