Boys’ recruit: Rocky Point 2014 midfielder McGovern commits to Belmont Abbey

Rocky Point High School senior midfielder Brendan McGovern has made a commitment to play Division II lacrosse at Belmont Abbey College.

Major lacrosse honors: 2013 Champions NXT Philly Invitational (Downingtown, PA), Champ Camp (Towson University, MD), 2013 Champions Best of the Best Invitational Tournament (Long Island, NY), 2013 Champions Bitter Stowe Invitational Tournament (Stowe, VT)

What will you major in/study? Criminal Justice

Why did you choose Belmont Abbey? “Belmont Abbey provides me with an opportunity to have an immediate impact on the lacrosse field and to study in a small school setting.”

Outlook for your High School team? “I expect us to have a strong year. We have good athletes at every position. I believe that we can make some noise in the Suffolk County playoffs.”

Thank You: “I would like to thank my coaches. Scott Reh, my Team Long Island coach, has pushed, guided and encouraged me since the 5th grade. He always believed that I could play at a high level. Mike Bowler, coach at Rocky Point High School, made me a first line midfielder as a Sophomore. He has pushed me to become a team leader. I would also like to thank my parents for all their time and sacrifices. Their dedication allowed me to play lacrosse year round and to compete at the highest level.”
