Millon Lacrosse, the nation’s premier provider of youth lacrosse instruction is excited to announce a partnership with National Champion Kara Cannizzaro.Millon Girls Lacrosse

Millon lacrosse, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2014 has had over 20,000 boys attend camp during that period and is known for attention to detail, top rate instruction, incredible staff’s, and safety. In 2013 Cannizzaro helped lead her North Carolina Tar Heels to their first ever National Championship and was voted the MVP of the Final Four. She was also a Tewaaraton Finalist, First team All-America, All ACC team, and holds the UNC single season record for points with 83. She earned the Patterson award for the Best Female athlete at North Carolina this past year.

“I’m very passionate and have dedicated my adult life to lacrosse instruction and I couldn’t be happier to work with someone like Kara who is not only a great player but cares a lot about the development of young girls,” said Mark Millon, director of Millon camps. “As soon as we spoke I realized we were very like-minded and have similar philosophies on how to train young athletes. She is one of those rare great players that have a great handle on teaching.”

“I love the game and have done tons of instructional work throughout school and always felt that I wanted to do more after college,” said Cannizzaro. “It’s pretty exciting to pair up my brand with a brand that has stood for lacrosse instruction for so long. I really look forward to this opportunity and giving young girls some of the same opportunities I had.”

Cannizzaro said the camps will focus on the basics of lacrosse.

“The skills addressed at the camps will be largely based on fundamentals,” she said. “The campers will learn a variety of new stick skills that will help them in any position on the field. Also the attacking players will have an emphasis on dodging and shooting technique. Defending players will work on their footwork, slides, and doubling.”

Millon Girl’s Lacrosse will run two camps in 2014, with overnight and day options. Session one will be at Farmingdale State College on Long Island on July 14-18 and the second session will be held in Baltimore at the prestigious St. Paul’s school July 6-10.

Why are skills camps so important (as opposed to showcases, tournaments) to young lacrosse players in their development?

“Five years ago and before, almost all young athletes were going to camps and now they are really only playing on teams,” Millon said. “When you play on teams the vast majority of time is spent doing team concepts…the individual skills, shooting, dodging, stick work are being somewhat neglected and eroded.”

Millon said the girls’ camps will be modeled after his successful boys’ camps.

“Our girls’ camps are going to follow the exact model of our boys under both myself and Kara’s leadership,” said Millon. “Great organization for the parents, staff, facilities, huge raffles, lots of fun, but more than anything it’s going to be all about instruction.

“Really the biggest differences is that we have 20 years of experience in running instructional camps. We get it and know how to do it. Kara is one of the top young players in the game, a great teacher and has passion for development. She will bring in many top young players to coach.”
