Women’s recruits: Holy Cross adds Furman (Garden City) in Class of 2017

Holy Cross head women’s lacrosse coach Stephanie Ridolfi has announced the 2013-2014 freshman class for the Crusaders. Natalie Colonna (Montgomery, N.J.), Hannah Dinardo (Weston, Mass.), Elizabeth Furman (Garden City, N.Y.), Avery Giorgio (Madison Conn.), Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.), Mary Patalita (Alexandria, Va.), Lauren Raffensperger (Bethesda, Md.), Maddy Smith (Menands, N.Y.), Mary Kate Vanecko (Chicago, Ill.) and Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.) have joined the Holy Cross program in the 2013-2014 academic year.

“We are very excited to welcome 10 freshmen to our team and to campus.,” said Ridolfi. “They are a large group and a very diverse group. These student-athletes all have the potential to bring something special to this team and this fall we will be giving them the opportunity to do so.

“They are aware of what it means to be on the lacrosse team and they want the team to be as successful as possible in their four years here. I expect us to utilize many of their talents this year and for them to really make the team faster, stronger and smarter.”

Before Holy Cross: Three-year member of the varsity lacrosse team at Garden City High School under coach Diane Chapman…team captain senior year…earned All-County honors…team won the state championship, the county championship and the Island championship in 2011 and 2012…named team’s Unsung Hero and earned the Team Player Award…also lettered in field hockey for four seasons under coach Chapman…team won the county championship and the Island championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012…played club lacrosse for the Long Island Yellow Jackets (blue) under coach Danielle Skakandi…club team won the U15 2010 national championship and Lax For A Cure championship in 2012…member of Spanish Honor Society.

Personal: Daughter of Ronald and Theresa Furman…father played golf at St. John’s University (Class of 1979)…has two brothers (Michael and Ryan) and one sister (Catherine)…Catherine played lacrosse at Holy Cross (Class of 2012) and was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in 2012…has not yet declared a major.
