From Press Release
Hofstra University freshman attack Becky Conto (West Hempstead, NY) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week, it was announced this afternoon by the conference office.
It is Hofstra’s third CAA award of the season as freshman attack Emily Considine was the CAA Rookie of the Week on February 18 and sophomore attack Brittain Altomare garnered CAA Player of the Week honors on March 4.
Conto continued the strong start to her rookie campaign as she posted a hat trick in the Pride’s lone game, an 8-5 win over Temple on Thursday. It marked the first multi-goal game of Conto’s career and upped her season total to seven goals. Conto’s first goal of the game gave Hofstra an early 2-1 lead before she gave the Pride its first two-goal advantage of the game at 4-2 with 12:33 left in the first half. She also closed the scoring in the game.
For the season, Conto ranks fifth on the team in scoring with nine points on seven goals and two assists. She also has 16 draw controls, 10 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Conto is third on the team in draw controls and fifth in caused turnovers.
Hofstra returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Ohio State for an 11 a.m. contest against the Buckeyes.
