Seven Pride players scored goals, including two each by junior Torin Varn and freshman Sam Llinares, to lead Hofstra to a 9-2 victory over 13th-ranked Fairfield at Alumni Field Tuesday evening. The Pride improved to 2-1 on the season while Fairfield slipped to 2-2.

Sophomore goalie Chris Selva posted eight saves, including five in the second half to record his second win of the season.

The two teams battled through a spirited but even first quarter with each team denting the twine once. Coholan opened the scoring just 3:28 into the game with his second of the season. But the lead was short-lived as the Stags tied the game just 1:30 later as Sam Snow fed Nick Guida for his fifth goal of the season.

Hofstra then went on a four-goal run and took the lead midway through the second quarter as Varn notched his 10th goal of the season at the 7:12 mark, off a pass from Coholan, with Fairfield sophomore Tristan Sperry off for a slash. Llinares boosted the Pride lead to 3-1 coming around the cage and beating Murphy for his sixth of the season with 4:20 to play in the half. Hofstra and Selva, who made three saves in the half, were helped by the posts in the second as two Stag shots bounced off the pipes.

The Pride added two more in the third as freshman Brian von Bargen scored the first goal of his career at the 8:38 mark coming in from left side of Murphy for a 4-1 lead. Less than four minutes later, Adrian Sorichetti posted his second of the season from the right side off a short pass from Yapor for a 5-1 advantage.

Fairfield junior Jordan Greenfield ended the Pride run with an extra-man goal, from Snow, with Tyler Johnston off for a cross check with 55 seconds to play in the quarter. But Hofstra sophomore John Reicherter boosted the Pride lead back to four with an unassisted goal on a run in from midfield with four seconds to play in the period. It was his second goal of the season.

The Pride blew the game open in the fourth quarter with three goals in the final 4:10 as Llinares scored his second of the game at the 10:50 mark. Yapor then tallied his second of the season, from Llinares, almost two minutes later while on the extra-man for an 8-2 advantage. Varn then scored his second of the game and 11th of the season, from Yapor, also on the extra-man with 1:35 to play.

The Pride outshot the Stags, 40-26 while the ground balls were even at 26-all.Hofstra also was successful in 17 of 18 clear attempts.
