Hofstra University Women’s Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith today announced the signings of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play lacrosse at Hofstra.
The six – Taylor Altomare, Audrey Byrd, Alexis Greene, Erin Jeffrey, Morgan Knox and Erika Neumen – represent Smith’s first recruiting class and will begin their studies at Hofstra in the fall 2013.
“We are really excited to welcome these six young student-athletes to join our family here at Hofstra,” commented Smith. “This recruiting class is a very exciting one for us as we bring a large talented class in from the east coast, mid-west and west coast. This group brings a lot of versatility and it will be exciting to watch them make an immediate impact to our 2013-14 team. These student-athletes are very athletic, fast, agile, aggressive and work extremely hard. We cannot wait for them to get on campus to start working with them.”
Altomare (Myersville, MD), a midfielder, will join the Pride from Middletown (MD) High School where she has been a two-time all-area and All-Monocacy Valley Athletic League selection. In her three years as a starter, Middletown has compiled a 39-7 record and Altomare has recorded 84 goals and 47 assists. Altomare’s older sister, Brittain, is a sophomore on the Pride in 2012-13.

Byrd (Jarretsville, MD) comes to Hofstra from North Harford High School in Pylesville, MD, where she played for former Pride standout Tara Buecker. A midfielder/defender, Byrd was a part of the Class 3A regional championship and Maryland state finals team in 2010.
Smith on Byrd –
“Audrey is a tremendous athlete and is going to bring a lot of depth to us in the midfield. We are excited to work with her once she arrives on campus to develop her game even more.”
Greene (Glen Head, NY) is a standout goalkeeper for North Shore High School, where she helped lead the Vikings to Nassau County Championships in 2011 and 2012.

“Alexis brings a lot of experience to us in the cage. She is a phenomenal goalie who is a proven winner by leading her high school team to two conference championships.”
Jeffrey (Diablo, CA) will join the Pride from Carondelet High School in Concord, CA, where she is a standout on the Cougars attack. As a junior in 2012, Jeffrey scored 107 goals and added 36 assists in earning her second consecutive High School All-America accolade. She has been a three-time East Bay Athletic League All-Star and was the EBAL Most Valuable Player in 2012. She was also selected the 2012 San Francisco East Bay Player of the Year by the Contra Coast Times. Jeffrey has helped her team to EBAL and North Coast Section championships in each of the past two seasons.

Knox (Whiteford, MD) also comes to Hofstra from North Harford High School where she was a teammate of fellow signee Audrey Byrd. Knox was a first team all-county selection in lacrosse as a junior after earning second team accolades as a sophomore. She also earned best attacker honors at North Harford in 2012 after leading the team in points with 78 on 30 goals and 48 assists. Knox was also part of the Class 3A regional championship and Maryland state finals team in 2010.

“Morgan has extraordinary field vision. We cannot wait to watch her grow her game at the college level and assist her in becoming a great attacker.”
Neumen (Rockford, MI), a midfield/attack, will come to Hofstra from Rockford High School where she was an honorable mention All-American in 2012 after tallying 87 goals, 16 assists, 50 ground balls and 62 draw controls in 22 games. She scored a school record 11-goals in a game during the 2012 regional finals and was a first team All-Michigan selection as a sophomore and junior. Neumen has also been a three-time all-conference pick and a two-year team captain.

Hofstra will begin the 2013 campaign on Saturday, February 16 when it hosts New Hampshire at 11 a.m.
