The SUNY College at Old Westbury director of athletics Lenore Walsh and women’s lacrosse head coach Lauren Schneider announced the hiring of Brianna Day (Plainedge) as the programs first assistant coach for the inaugural 2013 season.
As a four-year member of the University at Albany women’s lacrosse team as midfielder (2010-12) and defender (2009), Day appeared in 27 games, scoring five goals for a program that was nationally ranked in the top-20 during her time from 2009-12. During her freshman year, Albany defensive unit ranked sixth in the nation. As a senior, she played in 13 games as the Great Danes won the America East Championship for the second consecutive year after advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 as a junior.
A native of North Massapequa, New York, Day was a four-year varsity starting midfielder at Plainedge High. In 2008, Day was named to the United States Lacrosse High School Academic All-America Team, while earning All-Nassau County honors as a senior captain. Day captured all-conference selections as a sophomore and junior and finished her career with 37 goals and six assists. At Plainedge, she combined to earn 10 varsity letters in lacrosse, track and field (55-meter dash, 300-meter dash, 4×4 400 meter relay) and soccer. She was a three-time member of the National Honor Society.
Day was a Human Biology (pre-dental) major with a minor in Education and graduated from Albany in 2012. She was tabbed to the America East Conference Honor Roll in 2012 and was named to the Dean’s List in 2009.
Since 2009, Day has been a United States Lacrosse Certified Coach as a head coach of the Long Island Liberty Lacrosse Program as well as an assistant coach with Black Diamond Lacrosse Camps and Clinics.
Day currently resides in North Massapequa, New York. Day’s father, Stephen, was a USILA Division I Honorable Mention All-American at Adelphi University in 1982.
Since 2008, Day has been a volunteer for Autism Speak and an American Cancer Association Relay for Life Participant.
