Wyatt Wood

Academic Honors: National Honors Society Member, High Honor Roll, Academic All-State, 3.8 cumulative GPA

What will you major in/study? Undecided/Business

Why did you choose Maryland? “I chose Maryland because Coach (John) Tillman, Coach (Fran) Gormley, and all the other assistants treated me very well and made me feel wanted. The amount of time Coach Tillman spent with me really showed me how much he cares about his program and his players. Also the players that I had the chance to talk to were really cool guys and they spoke highly of the school as a whole. To have a chance to play for a school with so much tradition is an honor, especially coming from a place where lacrosse is so new.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for the season? “After two previous heart breaking seasons (losing in State) I think that our team has strong senior leadership and a great chance to win it all. Not to mention a chip on our shoulder that will help us work even harder this winter and into the spring.”

Additional comments: “I met Coach (Kevin) Miller (LI Sting), through a friend of mine named Colin Donnelly. His Dad, Joe Donnelly told me about the Sting and also told Coach Miller about me. Coach Miller gave me a shot, and taught me a lot of things about the game. He has helped my Mom and me through the recruiting process and has been a great mentor as well.

“I would also like to thank my Mom, Dad, and Stepmom for sacrificing their time and money to take me out east this past summer.

“Coach Davis at Deerfield has also been a huge help in the recruiting process. My head coach, Andy Gruber has always been a positive supporter and has always believed in me. Thanks to Dugan’s Sports Performance for continuing to make me a better athlete.

“Big thanks to my friends for believing in me. Also, big thanks to my football coaches for letting me miss a few summer practices.

“I’m very thankful for the people that have helped me throughout this entire process.”

Other schools considered: Cornell, Michigan
