From Press Release

The Hofstra Women’s Lacrosse team, under the direction of first year coach Shannon Smith, was picked fifth in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Coaches Poll released this afternoon by the conference office.

Defending champion Towson was predicted to finish atop the CAA women’s lacrosse standings again in 2013 according to a vote by the league’s head coaches.

The Tigers received seven first-place votes for a total of 49 points to top the preseason poll. James Madison was selected second with 41 points, while Drexel received one first place vote and 35 points to earn the third spot. Delaware was picked to finish fourth with 28 points followed by Hofstra, William & Mary, Old Dominion and George Mason.

For Hofstra, senior midfielder Jill Maier was named to the Honorable Mention Preseason All-CAA squad.

Smith and the rest of the Pride will start the 2013 campaign on Saturday, February 16 when they take on New Hampshire at 11 a.m. inside James M. Shuart Stadium.

The Pride returns a ton of talent from 2012 as 24 letter-winners return for the 2013 season, and the team added seven talented newcomers. Hofstra also returns 10 starters from last season and offensively-speaking the Pride turns 100% of all points scored a season ago.

Maier finished 2012 fourth on the team with 25 points on 22 goals and three assists. She ranked second on the team in goals, while her 40 draw controls led the squad.
