Hofstra Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney announced the Pride’s 14-game schedule for the 2013 season.
“We are proud of the schedule that we have assembled for the 2013 season,” the seventh-year mentor said. “We have put together a challenging slate that includes eight home games, four contests against NCAA Championship opponents from last season including three at James M. Shuart Stadium, and an exciting group of non-conference and CAA match-ups.”
The Pride will begin their four-game, preseason scrimmage schedule with a trip to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Saturday, January 26 for match-ups against Le Moyne and the Orange of Syracuse, Hofstra will host two more scrimmages at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, February 9 when they face Penn and first-year program Marquette, led by former Associate Head Coach Joe Amplo.
The 2013 regular season schedule begins on Saturday, February 16 when the Pride host Sacred Heart at 1:30 p.m. The Tigers of Princeton, the first of four NCAA Championship qualifiers from 2012, will follow on Saturday, February 23 at James M. Shuart Stadium. A road trip to Connecticut closes out the month of February as the Pride will travel to Fairfield on Tuesday, February 26th at 4 p.m.
Hofstra will play seven games in March with four on the road and three at home. The Pride will host Harvard at 1 p.m. on March 2 before hitting the road on March 9 for a game at 2012 NCAA Championship semifinalist, Notre Dame at noon. In other non-conference contests, Hofstra will travel west a bit on Tuesday, March 19 to face local rival, St. John’s and will host its third Ivy League opponent of the year on Tuesday, March 26 when Dartmouth College comes to Long Island. The Tar Heels of North Carolina, another 2012 NCAA Championship Tournament team, will be the Pride’s final non-conference opponent at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m.
The Pride begin their Colonial Athletic Association schedule on Saturday, March 16 at the University of Delaware before hosting CAA-finalist Drexel on Saturday, March 23. The game against the Dragons will be the first of five CAA games in the final seven outings to close the regular season. Hofstra will travel to Towson on Saturday, March 30 and Saint Joseph’s on Saturday, April 6 before hosting defending CAA champion and NCAA Championship participant, Massachusetts on Saturday, April 20. The Pride will close out their conference regular season schedule on Saturday, April 27 at home against Penn State.
Hofstra returns 27 players including seven starters from last year’s squad.
