Smithtown West junior defender-LPM Nick Albanese has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Sacred Heart University.
Nick Albanese log:
High School: Smithtown High School West
Graduation Year: 2014
Position: Long Pole Middie/Defense
College Choice: Sacred Heart University
Club Affiliation: Team Smithtown
Lacrosse Showcases: Top 205, Philly Showcase, Maverick
Academic Honors: Honor Roll
What will you major in/study? Business
Why did you choose Sacred Heart? “I chose Sacred Heart University because I liked Sacred Heart’s lacrosse program as well as the coaching staff.
“I had met many College Lacrosse coaches during this recruiting process. I felt comfortable with Coach (Tom) Mariano from the first time we met. Coach Mariano explained their lacrosse philosophy which I loved and fit my skills perfectly.
“Two of the things I love about his style is that they play very fast, and a Long Pole Middie is one of the most important players of the field. Coach Mariano has also played Long Pole Middie, which I feel will only enhance my skills.
“Sacred Heart has a great Business program and a 95% job placement rate right out of college. They also have a lot of Manhattan connections. I really liked that Sacred Heart is a selective School with a great reputation. The small class sizes were something I was looking for in a University.”
What is your HS team’s outlook for next season? Smithtown’s Varsity Lacrosse teams outlook for this season is to win the NY State championship. Last years season, we lost in the County semi-finals. This year, we have the same returning defense and a lot of talent on the offensive side making us a very strong team. Our team has been playing together on Team Smithtown since the 5th grade so we have good chemistry both on and off the field.”
Additional Comments: “I’d like to thank my Smithtown West High School Coaches, Head Coach Bob Moltisani, Defensive Coach LaTouche and my Assistant Coaches Rotella and Coach Snyder. Thank you to my parents for helping me with this whole recruiting process.”
