Girls’ recruit: Massapequa senior goalie Pfeifer commits to Colorado Mesa

Massapequa senior goalie Jillian Pfeifer has committed to play Division II lacrosse at Colorado Mesa University.

Major lacrosse honors: “Two year Captain of JV team as a defender. Varsity starter as a goal tender. Team ranked #18 on the national list. Long Island Wave 2013 team, #13 ranked summer club in the nation. LI Wave starter for 5 years. I proudly wear #16 for both teams.”

Academic honors: AP student, High Honor Roll, National Honor Society

What will you major in/study? Major in Business, Minor in International Studies

Why did you choose Colorado Mesa? “The lacrosse program and the tremendous Coach Abby Simpson meet all my needs and wants as a college student athlete.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next season? “This upcoming spring season my varsity team is prepared to do whatever it takes to bring home the County Championship.”

Other schools considered: Centenary, Gettysburg, Franklin and Marshall

Additional Comments: “I would like to thank my parents who have supported me ever since I was a child. They are my number one fans and I love them so much. I started playing lacrosse at 6 years old and immediately loved it. I played defense for my entire lacrosse career until I got to varsity and decided to follow my father, Vinnie Pfeifer, in playing goalie. I completely fell in love with the position. My Father played professional lacrosse on the New York Saints and my Mother has been a die hard lacrosse fan since she and my father met.

“I would also like to thank Joe Fanning and my Wave coaches for helping me find the college for me and giving me the best summers of my life.

“Finally, I want to thank the entire MHS varsity staff for giving me the chance to play and fall in love with the game all over again.”
