Boys’ recruit: Smithtown West junior goalie Smidt commits to Ohio State

Smithtown West junior goalie Matthew Smidt has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at The Ohio State University.

Major lacrosse honors: 2X Scholar athlete, MVP Rising Junior LI Lacrosse Showcase, LI Lax Fest All-Star, Hotbeds All-Star, Nike Blue Chip as Rising Sophomore, First Look Lacrosse Camp

Academic Honors: Spanish Honor Society, District Honor Roll

What will you major in/study? History/Law

Why did you choose OSU? “Head Coach Nick Myers and Assistant Coach Dave Dobbins made me feel like I was part of the lacrosse family on my first visit. When I was on campus and toured the athletic and academic facilities, I knew right away OSU was where I was supposed to be.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next season? “Every year our team goals are to win a County Championship and then advance to the State Championships.”

Other schools considered: Maryland, Cornell, Georgetown, UPenn and Penn State
