The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program has announced the commitment of 12 student-athletes who will suit up for the Fighting Irish beginning in the 2013 season. The class, which is ranked eighth nationally by Inside Lacrosse, features four midfielders, four defensemen, three attackmen and one goalie.
Three of the incoming players are listed in the Inside Lacrosse “Power 100 Freshmen” rankings, while two appear in the magazine’s top-20 post-graduate player rankings. Midfielders Trevor Brosco (#49) and Kyle Trolley (#96) along with defenseman Matt Landis (#66) are in the “Power 100 Freshmen”. Attackman Matt Kavanagh is the top-ranked post-graduate player, while fellow attackman Bobby Gray appears at No. 19 on the list.
“This class gives us help at every position,” says Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan. “They provide both talent and depth at every position. We have a number of guys who will be significant contributors and very good players at this level. I love the fact that a lot of the guys are coming out of top programs across the country. They’ve been well coached and have played good, competitive lacrosse.”
Four of the newcomers hail from New York, while three are from New Jersey. The other states/countries represented are California (2), Pennsylvania (2) and Canada (1).
Here is a complete breakdown of Notre Dame’s incoming freshman class …
Trevor Brosco – Midfield – Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River
Ranked No. 49 on the Inside Lacrosse “Power 100 Freshmen” rankings … rated as the 17th best midfielder in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … a five-time letter winner at Shoreham-Wading River High School … played on the varsity squad since the eighth grade … three-time team captain … the first sophomore to ever be named captain at Shoreham-Wading River … as a senior, he helped Shoreham-Wading River win the Suffolk County Class “C”, the Long Island Class “C” and the New York State Class “C” Championships en route to earning All-America honors from US Lacrosse and was named Suffolk County Class “C” MVP … in addition, he was selected all-county, all-division and was named to MSG Varsity first team all-metro (N.Y.,N.J., Conn.) … earned a spot on Newsday’s First Team All-Long Island in 2012 … helped Shoreham-Wading River to the Suffolk County Class “B” title during his junior campaign … selected to tryout for the 2012 U.S. U-19 squad … missed a good portion of his junior season due to injury … received all-county and all-division accolades as a sophomore and was chosen to play on the Empire Top 50 Showcase … selected to the all-star teams at the three events he attended that summer: Hot Beds, Maverik Showtime and King of the Hill … was one of only five sophomores to be named to MSG Varsity Super 75 (top players on Long Island) … son of James and Patricia Brosco … older sister, Kaitlyn, plays for the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team.

Matt Kavanagh – Attack – Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade/Hotchkiss (PG)
Ranked as the top post-graduate recruit for the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … won gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championships in Turku, Finland during the summer of 2012 … was named tournament MVP and most outstanding attackman at the U-19 world championships in addition to being on the all-tournament team … lead Team USA with 20 goals, in addition to 11 assists, at the U-19 tournament … Under Armour Underclassman All-American … spent a post-graduate year at Hotchkiss … team MVP at Chaminade during his senior campaign … led Chaminade in scoring during his junior and senior seasons … attackman of the year in New England West 1 … Newsday first team all-Long Island … MSG Varsity first team all-Tri State … Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) attackman of the year as a senior in addition to earning CHSAA all-league honors as a junior and senior … played Junior A hockey for NY Applecore in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) … son of Kevin and Mary Kavanagh … has four brothers (Kevin, Brendan, Patrick and Christopher) and one sister (Colleen).
Corrigan on Kavanagh … “Matt had a terrific summer (with the U.S. U-19 team). He’s a year older after having gone from Chaminade to Hotchkiss for a post-grad year, where he polished an already accomplished game. He proved that this summer. He is going to be a very, very good player at this level. He can do a lot of different things on the field.”
Edwin Glazener – Defense – La Jolla, Calif./The Bishop’s School
Rated as the 39th best defenseman in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … earned All-America honors during his senior season … a four-year letter winner at The Bishop’s School … two-time conference player of the year in addition to being named to the all-San Diego team twice … captained his squad during his junior and senior seasons … team defensive MVP … played under former Notre Dame lacrosse player Steve Sepeta … Adrenaline Showcase and High Rollers participant … an honor roll student … son of Chris and Ann Glazener … has a younger brother, Davis.
Corrigan on Glazener … “He gives us another big, athletic defenseman. He’s another one of our guys who understands how we play the game and they are excited about getting out there with us.”
Adam Goins – Midfielder – Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga
A three-year letter winner at Conestoga High School … helped squad to three Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) state titles (2010, 2011, 2012) and a three-year record of 72-6 … Conestoga was ranked in the top 10 nationally during the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons … first team all-conference as a senior along with beingAll-Eastern Pa Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) and second team All-Mainline … Nike Blue Chip participant and two-time Maverik Showtime Camp All-Star … started for the Conestoga football team during his sophomore and junior years and was an all-conference defensive back as a junior … received the 2012 Ryan Paul Weidler Scholar Athlete Memorial Award at Conestoga High School … lacrosse team’s recipient of the 2012 Herzlich Family Award … National Achievement Scholar … member of the National Honor Society … All-School Scholar … AP Scholar with Honor … High School Peer Tutor … son of Chris and Melissa Goins … has a younger sister, Grace.

Bobby Gray – Attack – San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep/Deerfield Academy (PG)
Rated as the 19th best post-graduate recruit in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … spent his post-graduate year at Deerfield Academy in Connecticut … received All-America honors during his junior and senior seasons at St. Ignatius … team captain during his senior season at St. Ignatius along with receiving the John M. Rated as the 33rd best attackman in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … played on the St. Joseph’s varsity squad for four seasons … copped All-America and all-state honors during his junior and senior seasons … tallied 417 career points, including 105 during his senior campaign … two-time team captain … Champion All-American participant … competed in the 2011 Under Armour Underclassmen Games … also captained the football squad at St. Joseph’s … member of the National Honor Society and the German National Honor Society … son of Ed and Beth Lubowicki … has a younger sister, Shelby.

Cole Riccardi – Midfield – Madison, N.J./Delbarton
