Three former Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse players have been selected to play in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game that will be played on Saturday, June 30 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Defensemen Nick Polanco ’02 and Steve DeNapoli ’11 and midfielder Brian Langtry ’98 will represent Hofstra in the 11th MLL All-Star Game. The all-star rosters have been split into the Young Guns team and the Old School squad. Polanco and Langtry will play on the Old School side while DeNapoli will run with the Young Guns.

Polanco, a two-time United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American including a first team honor in 2002 at Hofstra, is making his sixth MLL All-Star Game appearance in 2012. The Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2002, Polanco has also been voted the MLL Warrior Defensive Player of the Year twice and to the All-MLL Team three times. He played his first two professional seasons in Bridgeport, was part of Philadelphia’s title-winning team in 2004 and spent seven seasons with Long Island before being traded to league-leading Chesapeake for 2012. Polanco has recorded 382 ground balls in 107 MLL games and has been selected MLL Defensive Player of the Week five times during his career.

Langtry, a 1998 USILA All-America honorable mention and America East Most Valuable Player, is playing in the MLL All-Star Game for fourth time in his 11-year career. A four-year letterman at Hofstra, he ranks 10th on the Pride’s career points list with 142. One of only nine players in Hofstra history to record 70 points or more in a single season, Langtry tallied 37 goals and 35 assists in 1998. He set a MLL All-Star Game record by scoring three two-point goals in the 2009 exhibition and claimed the Fastest Shot title at 2007 Bud Light Skills Competition. He played the 2001 and 2002 MLL seasons in Bridgeport, 2003 and 2004 in Baltimore and six seasons in Denver before coming to Long Island for the 2012 season. Langtry currently ranks fifth in the MLL with 16 goals and is 10th with 24 points for the second-place Lizards, who are riding a five-game winning streak. He has recorded 106 goals, including 16 two-point goals, and 107 assists for 283 points in 206 MLL games.

DeNapoli, a two-time All-CAA selection in 2009 and 2011, is one of 16 first time All-Stars in this year’s MLL All-Star Game. A four-year letterman at Hofstra, he was also named to CAA Championship Tournament teams in 2009 and 2011. A USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game selection in 2011, DeNapoli has also received Hofstra’s Bengt Barbaccia Award and the David McCartney Memorial Endowed Scholarship. He has played in all seven games this season for the Rochester Rattlers and has scored a goal in five of seven contests this season, including a season-high of two goals against Chesapeake on May 12. DeNapoli is tied for sixth on the team in points with eight points including seven goals.
