Long Island teams will compete in annual US Lacrosse Under-15 National Championships: Yallow Jackets seek 3rd straight girls’ title

US Lacrosse announced today the 51 youth lacrosse teams that will compete in the fourth annual US Lacrosse Under-15 National Championships, Powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, July 24-26 (girls) and July 27-29 (boys) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The two-time defending national champion Yellow Jackets (N.Y.) return to highlight the 25-team girls’ field. In the 26-team boys’ field, defending national champion For the Love of the Game (N.Y.), which finished as the runner-up in 2009 and 2010, returns to try to repeat. More than 1,200 youth lacrosse players from 18 states will participate in an event that is part of the annual ESPNHS Games.

“This is our signature youth lacrosse event, where we blend elite competition for the national championship with US Lacrosse’s time-honored values of sportsmanship and fair play,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “It is great to see the teams from all corners of the country competing at the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, and together with our colleagues at Disney and ESPN, we’re looking forward to a terrific week of youth lacrosse.”

The girls’ bracket also features 2012 US Lacrosse West Regional Champion Nor Cal Elite Green (Calif.), US Lacrosse Central Regional Champion Coyotes Fusion (Colo.), and US Lacrosse Southeast Regional Champion Stickbenders (Fla.). On the boys’ side, 2012 US Lacrosse Southeast Regional Champion No Limit Ballers (N.Y.) join 2011 national semifinalists Nor Cal Talon (Calif.), Long Island Express (N.Y.), and Long Island Jesters (N.Y.).

US Lacrosse Regional Champions, runners-up and semifinalists in 2012 received automatic invitations with free or reduced registration to the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships. Semifinalists and sportsmanship award winners from the 2011 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships also received automatic invitations.

Each national championship will begin with a day of pool play. After that, teams will be seeded for a single-elimination bracket to determine the national champion. Participating teams:

About the ESPNHS Games
The ESPN HS Games — a three-week long elite and competitive level event featuring the premier high school sports talent in the country — will take place between July 9-30 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The ESPNHS Games are anchored by three elite high school sports events: Champion All-American Showcase, a US Lacrosse boys and girls event; the AAU 11th Grade Boys Basketball Super Showcase presented by Champion and Champion Gridiron Kings. In addition, the ESPNHS Games features several competitive events in football, lacrosse, field hockey, softball, basketball, baseball and track & field involving high school athletes from around the country. Among those events are AAU U8-U12 National Basketball Championships, the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, the KSA National Football Summer 7s, the USSSA 16U/18U Fastpitch Softball World Series and the USSSA 18U National Baseball Championships.
