CORTLAND – Katie Boden posted three goals and three assists and Alyssa Pearce added three more scores as Shoreham-Wading River held off Christian Brothers Academy, 14-13, in a wild Class C state semifinal girls’ lacrosse game here at SUNY-Cortland.

Defending state champion CBA (20-2) nearly pulled off a remarkable comeback after compiling seven yellow cards and going down four players late in the game. CBA’s Marisa Romeo scored the last five goals of the contest, and seven overall.

Romeo had a chance to tie the contest with 25 seconds remaining, but Wildcats goalie Lauren Daly denied her free position bid. Daly then stopped the Brothers’ Caroline Webster with four ticks remaining.

Shoreham-Wading River (16-3) takes on Honeoye-Falls (11-11) in the title game 9:30 a.m. today. The Wildcats won four straight state titles before the Brothers took the crown last year.

Jessica Angerman gave the Wildcats a 6-5 edge at the half by firing home a shot one second before intermission. But CBA knotted the game 47 seconds into the second, courtesy of a tally by Sophie Racciatti.

The Wildcats then went on a 5-0 run, on scores from Lauren Lustgarten, Alex Fehmel, Shannon Rosati, Angerman and Paulina Constant.

“We knew they could come back at any time,’’ Pearce said. “We knew we had to keep scoring.’’

Romeo tied the game with 14:07 remaining, but Constant, Pearce and Boden ran off consecutive goals to give the Wildcats a 14-8 cushion with 9:33 remaining.

That’s when Romeo took over. CBA got its fifth yellow card with 10:57 remaining, putting the team down two players.

The Brothers lost two more after getting yellow cards with 5:35 and 4:44 remaining, respectively. But CBA controlled the draws and Romeo kept going to the net and getting fouled. She converted four straight free position shots to pull the Brothers within 14-13 before Daly stopped her with the game on the line.

“Laura Daly had that awesome save. We were a little nervous,’’ Pearce said. “But we put that behind us.’’
