In an event where the friendships made are more important that the results of the games, the Hofstra Pride men’s lacrosse team concluded their series of contests at the 23rd International Friendship Games in Tokyo.
The Pride has a busy day Tuesday, playing three teams, Waseda University, the University of Tokyo and Keio University, in 40-minute (four 10-minute quarters) contests at Oi-2nd Stadium. The first game was against Waseda University with the Pride coming out on top, 9-2. Mike DeNapoli tallied six goals and Lance Yapor, Steve Romano and Korey Hendrickson each added single goals for Hofstra.
In the second game against the University of Tokyo, the Pride came out on top again, 10-3. Every Hofstra had an opportunity to play with several seniors switching some of their positions. DeNapoli tallied three goals, Ryan Rielly added two and Brad Loizeaux, Tyler Begley, Torin Varn, Cole Koesterer and Yapor scored solo goals.
The last game of the day was against Keio University and Hofstra closed out its tour with a 9-4 win to finish with a perfect 5-0 record. Yapor posted three goals, DeNapoli scored two goals and Begley, Brian Hogan, Rob Bellairs and Anthony Zappone also notched single goals. DeNapoli scored 14 goals in the final four games of the tour.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) Hofstra will enjoy a final day of sightseeing that will include Sumo wrestling and a trip to Tokyo Disney before returning home to New York on Thursday.
