This was a big week of girl’s lacrosse with the County finals and the Long Island Championships rearranging the whole rankings.
First we had the Nassau County finals on Wednesday May 30. The first game set the tone for an exciting day with number one Cold Spring Harbor (14-3) losing in overtime to North Shore (14-4). This was followed by Garden City (15-5) winning its eighth straight Nassau County title over Wantagh (13-6). Finishing the night was Farmingdale (17-2) beating Massapequa (15-3), claiming the Nassau County Class A title.
Thursday May 31 was the Suffolk County finals. Shoreham Wading River (15-3) defeated Mount Sinai (13-6), Eastport South Manor (15-5) upset Hauppauge (16-3) and Bay Shore claimed the Suffolk Class A title by defeating Ward Melville (17-2).
Sunday showcased the Long Island Championship games at Dowling College. Shoreham Wading River pulled out a victory over North Shore. Garden City claimed their seventh straight Long Island Championship title over Eastport South Manor. Bay Shore defeated Farmingdale in a thrilling overtime victory. All three of these teams will go on and represent Long Island in the State Championship tournament in SUNY Cortland on June 8.
