Holly Logan and Kaitlin Heins each scored three goals Tuesday night as host Cold Spring Harbor rallied for a 12-11 win over North Shore in girls’ lacrosse action, clinching the Conference 4 title.
The Seahawks finished the regular season with a nine-game win streak and stand at 13-2. The Vikings fell to 12-3 and have lost two straight.
“There are no words to describe this feeling,” said Logan, a freshman. “We changed up our defense a little because they are a great team and we just kept our composure and played great.
“Our season is going really well. Every game we are so pumped and so excited and we feel like this is a great year for us.”
Cold Spring Harbor trailed, 6-5, at halftime, but at the 21:45 mark of the second half Jean Atkinson tied the game at six and two minutes later put the Seahawks up by one. With 3:48 remaining in the game North Shore’s Carly Comitino tied the score at 10 and Tess Korten put North Shore up by one with 2:28 remaining.
But Logan got the ball off the draw and scored to tie the game at 11 with 2:15 remaining, and Jillian Lee tallied the game-winner with 1:20 remaining. Jillian Lee and Victoria Kotowski both had two goals for the Seahawks.
Tess Korten had three goals and three assists and Carly Comitino had three goals for North Shore.
“This give us a boost of confidence going into the playoffs,” said Cold Spring Harbor head coach Danielle Skakandi. “In no way are we overly confident we are definitely staying humble because this is the same exact situation we were in last year and it didn’t pan out the way we hoped.
“We aren’t taking anyone lightly. We are excited for the playoffs; the playoffs are when we hope to peak this year and we are looking to go all the way one step at a time.”
Skakandi said the Cold Spring Harbor-North Shore games are always close.
“The last three years this has been a one point game so we knew it was going to come down to the final seconds,” she said. “We knew we were in it. One goal isn’t a big deficit at all so we knew it was all about possession; we had to get the next draw.”
