Virginia national champion Ghitelman (Cold Spring Harbor) receives Glickman Outstanding Jewish Scholastic Athlete of the Year Award

Adam Ghitelman, the goalie on the 2011 NCAA National Champion Virginia Cavaliers lacrosse team, was honored with the 2012 Marty Glickman Outstanding Jewish Scholastic College Athlete of the Year Award Sunday at the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack.

Ghitelman, who currently plays for the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse, recorded 586 saves during his 62-game career at Virginia, posting a 8.94 goals-against average and a save percentage of .533. During Virginia’s run to the national championship last spring, Ghitelman, who served as one of the team’s captains in 2011, started 17 games and stopped 178 shots, to go along with a .954 goals-against average. He concluded his collegiate career second in Virginia history in career saves.

A graduate of Cold Spring Harbor, Ghitelman played for the Denver Outlaws during the 2011 MLL season.

Located within the Suffolk Y JCC, the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum serves as an homage to Jewish athletes and individuals who have made an impact on the sports world throughout the country.
