Brandon Savona also added three goals and one assist for the Chiefs, who improved to 4-1 and dealt the Warriors (4-1) their first loss.

“This was an all-around team win,” said Massapequa coach Tim Radomski. “We play Wantagh every yea; their coach Gary (Reh) does a great job with them.

“They are right down the block from us so the kids know each other and it’s always a hard game. They are good so we have to raise up our level of play and our kids prevailed today.”

Craig Berge and Ryan Kirby both had two goals and one assist in the victory for the Chiefs. Joe Danaher had nine saves in goal.

“Joe DeMarco played great defense and our goalie made a lot of saves,” said Ian Kirby, a sophomore attackman. “Our defense helped create a lot of fast breaks and it was good team play today.”

Wantagh had an early lead in the first quarter, 3-2. At the 2:30 mark in the first quarter Wantagh got flagged with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Massapequa took advantage of the penalty and went up 5-3 and Wantagh was never able to rebound.

Matt Balzano and Kyle Cain led Wantagh with two goals apiece.

“We came out flat today,” said Reh. “We are much better than that. We didn’t play that well today, but Massapequa came and played well and deserved the win today.”
