Jocelyn Penteck scored three of her five goals in the second half to help boost the Floral Park girls’ lacrosse team to a 12-9 win over Bethpage.

“Jocelyn is unbelievable,” said Floral Park coach Kristen Freiermuth. “That’s the player we know she is and we are just waiting for it to come out all the time; she is so unselfish that she is always looking to give the ball up but sometimes she has to keep it for herself because she is unstoppable.”

Penteck also added an assist for the Knights (5-1). Junior Kayla Buzzeo added three goals and two assists and sophomore Jeanna Orfanos had three goals. Two of Buzzeo’s goals came in the second half to help the Knights hold the lead over Bethpage (3-3).

“At first we came out pretty sloppy,” said Floral Park junior Jocelyn Penteck, “Our defense pulled together strong in the second half, they have a few really good girls and we knew we had to stop them.”

In the second half Bethpage scored three quick goals to draw within one at the 14:43 mark. Kathleen Moore started the run off with an assist to Leanne O’Brien and a minute later Moore scored a goal herself.

Goalie Brianna Whelan had 16 saves to lead Bethpage while Lindsay Cafiero had three goals and one assist for the Golden Eagles.

“Floral Park is the number two team in our conference,” said Bethpage coach Kate Danowski. “So to lose to them by three, I have to say I’m happy with it. I hope to use this game and build from this momentum and just go forward from here.”

With 4:08 left in the game Penteck scored the final goal, making it 12-9 and with 1:50 left. The Knights were able to get the ball back and held on to it sealing their victory.
