Senior midfielder Anne Heagerty said St. Anthony’s, a team that is always among the top squads in the nation, has especially high goals this season.
“We want to be No. 1 in the country and we are going to strive for that goal all season,” she said,
Heagerty, who has signed with Georgetown, scored six goals as the host Friars routed Manhasset, 17-6, today in non-league girls’ lacrosse.
“This was our first really big game of the season,” said St. Anthony’s coach Corrine Lomangino. “I’m really proud of my girls, they worked together and stuck to the game plan and came out with a really good win.”
St. Anthony’s (2-0) bolted to a 7-2 halftime lead and maintained the intensity in the second half, Stephanie Paloscio added three goals and two assists while Alexis Nicolia added three goals.
The four-time CHSAA champion Friars were No. 10 in the MaxPreps.com national rankings this week.
“This was a well-played game by both sides,” Heagerty said. “I think this game was a great start for us.”
Halle Majorana led the Indians (2-1) with two goals and one assist.
“We didn’t play our best game today,” said Manhasset coach Danielle Gallagher. “We had a lot of good shooting opportunities and we just weren’t putting the ball in the back of the net.”
