Eric Talbot scored four goals and Cody Petillo scored the game-winner with about five minutes to play as Sachem North opened its season in style tonight by defeating host Archbishop Spalding (Md.) in Severn.

Shawn Murphy and Kyle Rhatigan each had two goals and one assist for the Flaming Arrows, who rallied from a 7-6 fourth-period deficit after leading most of the game.

Brendan Schade made 13 saves for Sachem North and Jack Gannon had two assists while Rhatigan had the game-tying goal. The Sachem North defense played a key role by killing off a non-releasable 2-minute man-down situation in the fourth period.

“The whole defense played very well,” said Flaming Arrows coach Jay Mauro. “We didn’t give up a goal when we were two men down at the end of the third period or when we were down one man on the non-releasable situation.”
