Coming off their 7-6 victory at then-15th-ranked Harvard last Saturday, the Hofstra Pride nen’s Lacrosse team returned to the top 20 in the both the coaches and media Division I polls that were announced Monday.
The Pride is ranked 19th in both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Coaches Poll and the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Division I Media Poll.
The Pride, who slipped out of the USILA top 20 but was ranked 20th by Inside Lacrosse last week, received 11 points in the coaches poll of nine head coaches from around the country and 32 points in a vote of 20 select media members this week to take over 19th place in each poll.
The first eight teams are the same in both polls with Virginia (5-0) on top followed by Johns Hopkins (4-0), Cornell (2-0), Maryland (3-0), Massachusetts (4-0), Syracuse (2-1), Notre Dame (2-1) and North Carolina (4-1). Loyola (3-0) is ninth and Penn State (3-1) is 10th in the USILA Poll while Duke (3-2) is ninth and Penn State is 10th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.
Three teams share the same spot in the second 10 in both polls as Princeton (2-1) is 14th, Fairfield (4-0) is 17th and the Pride (2-2) is 19th. In the USILA Poll, Duke is 11th and is followed by Villanova (3-1), Denver (3-1), Princeton, Yale (2-0), Lehigh (4-1), Fairfield, Delaware (3-3), Hofstra and Ohio State (3-2). In the Inside Lacross Poll, Denver is 11th followed by Loyola, Villanova, Princeton, Lehigh, Yale, Fairfield, Ohio State, Hofstra and Harvard.
The Pride return to action this Saturday, March 10 when they host the seventh-ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
