From Press Release
Junior Demmianne Cook (Smithtown East) has been named America East Player of the Week for the second straight time after a record-breaking performance against Monmouth, the conference announced Tuesday. In addition, sophomore goalkeeper Frankie Caridi (Commack) has been named the Defender of the Week.
Cook set the Seawolves single-game record for goals with nine in Stony Brook’s 18-4 win over Monmouth. She scored six of those nine goals in the first half, helping SBU build a 13-1 lead in the first 30 minutes.
Cook is the NCAA leader in goals so far this season with 22. She is second in the nation in goals per game and eighth in points per game.
Caridi stopped eight of the 12 shots on goal she saw for a .667 save percentage while also collecting three ground balls and causing a turnover. Four of her eight saves were on free position attempts. Including her freshman season at Adelphi, Caridi is undefeated as a collegiate goalkeeper.
The Seawolves are 4-0 for the first time in program history and will next face nationally ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday at 1 p.m.
