The Farmingdale State men’s lacrosse team fell to visiting Scranton Saturday, 11-5, in its season opener.
In the first quarter, junior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) opened the scoring with an assist from senior midfielder Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y.). Scranton evened the score at 1-1 with a goal by junior attack Taylor Nelson. The Rams added two goals in the first minute of the second quarter, from senior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) and Nosworthy, to gain the 3-1 lead. But Scranton scored three unanswered goals before the halftime break for the 4-3 advantage.
In the third, Caden tied the game at 13:09, his second goal of the day. The Royals controlled the rest of the way, adding four goals in the third and three in the fourth, while holding Farmingdale State to just one tally in the final quarter.
For the Rams, Caden led the attack with two goals, two assists and five ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Al Rocco (Elmont, N.Y.) won 7-of-8 faceoffs and finished with three ground balls. Junior defender Ricky Morales (Holtsville, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls and Junior midfielder Josh Lamantia (Setauket, N.Y.) had four ground balls for the day.
Farmingdale State will now host Maine Maritime on Friday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m.
