There were plenty of positives to take from St. John’s 17-7 win over Holy Cross on Saturday, Feb. 18, and the conference accolades reflected that with both Jeff Lowman and Kieran McArdle (Connetquot) being named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Lowman, who was recently named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List for the top collegiate lacrosse player, recorded his first victory of the season against the Crusaders. Lowman turned away 15 shots, including eight during the third quarter alone. The Red Storm held Holy Cross to 1-7 on man-up opportunities as Lowman remained strong against a barrage of shots. Lowman earned four BIG EAST Honor Roll selections last season including one BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week award.
It is McArdle’s second career BIG EAST Honor Roll selection after recording seven points in games against Hofstra and Sacred Heart last season. The sophomore topped the point total of those two games in Saturday’s contest alone with three goals and five assists. McArdle found the net three times on just five shots and facilitated the Red Storm offense throughout the day. The eight points is a career-high for McArdle who had previously peaked at six points against Vermont on March 19, 2011.
St. John’s lacrosse travels to Yale where the Red Storm will take on the No. 17/18 Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Keep up with Red Storm lacrosse all season long at RedStormSports.com and on Twitter by following @STJ_Lacrosse.
