Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse midfielders Steve Serling and Ian Braddish have been named to the 2012 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List, the University Club of Washington DC-the sponsors of the award-announced Wednesday. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of collegiate lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2012 Tewaaraton Award.

Serling (Rockville Centre/South Side) is a red-shirt graduate student whose 2011 season was cut short by injury after just four games but not before he tallied three goals and six assists. The Lafayette College graduate tallied 72 goals and 24 assists in three seasons for the Leopards and was a USILA All-America honorable mention, the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and a USILA Scholar-All-America team selection in 2010.

Braddish (West Islip/West Islip) is a junior midfield who was fourth on the Pride roster in scoring last season with 33 points on 16 goals and a team-leading 17 assists. He posted five multi-goal games in 2011 and was an All-Colonial Athletic Association first team selection last year.

Serling and Braddish will be in action this Saturday, February 18 when the Pride begin their 2012 season when they host Sacred Heart University at James M. Shuart Stadium at 12:30 p.m.

This year’s Tewaaraton Watch List has 64 schools represented, which is a record high. “We are particularly excited with the number of schools represented in this year’s Watch List, which is a strong indication of the growth of the sport and the excitement that the Award creates throughout the lacrosse world” said Jeff Harvey, Chairman of the Tewaaraton Award.

The Selection Committee is made up of top collegiate coaches and are appointed each year by the Tewaaraton Award. “Our selection committee has a passion for this Award and these Watch List players should know that this is a distinction that only the best coaches could provide,” said Sarah Aschenbach, Executive Director of the Tewaaraton A ward.

The Selection Committees will make additions to the list as the season progresses as athletes earn a spot along side these elite players. In late April, the list will be narrowed to 25 and these men will earn the distinction of Tewaaarton Nominees. In mid-May, the five finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, which will take place on May 31st, at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC.
