From US Lacrosse
The 2012 US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion, drew a record 7,064 participants to the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia Jan. 13-15, as announced today by US Lacrosse. The figure set a record for the convention, which annually is the largest educational and networking event in the world for lacrosse coaches, officials, administrators, players and fans. The previous mark was 6,448 in Baltimore in 2011.
The convention’s participation base, which included paid attendees, exhibitors, presenters, staff and media, generated $8.35 million in economic impact for Philadelphia, according to estimates from the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“The lacrosse community is passionate about building relationships and building its knowledge base, and we work very hard to provide that environment at our annual convention,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “We had 220 of the game’s best coaches, officials and administrators give presentations that were strategic, insightful and inspiring, and we’re thankful both to them and to all of our attendees for making it a great event.”
The event marked the 10th anniversary of US Lacrosse’s first unified men’s and women’s lacrosse convention, held in 2002 in Philadelphia. Attendees of the 2012 convention were treated to keynote addresses by former Philadelphia Eagle and NFL head coach Herm Edwards and former four-time Super Bowl referee Jerry Markbreit, and to live demonstrations on the STX Live Field and Maverik Demo Field conducted by many of the game’s top coaches and players.
The US Lacrosse Fan Fest, sponsored by Easton and Go Pro, a portion of the convention’s Saturday schedule open to the general public, attracted 1,715 patrons, an increase of 165 from the 2011 Fan Fest in Baltimore. (The Fan Fest figure is included in the convention participation figure.)
The US Lacrosse National Convention will return to Philadelphia Jan. 11-13, 2013. The event does not fall on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend in 2013. US Lacrosse will open registration for the convention on or about Sept. 1.
