Commack senior goalie William Sampson has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Salve Regina University (R.I.).

William Sampson log:

Billy Sampson

High School: Commack High School

Graduation Year: 2012

Position: Goalie

College Choice: Salve Regina University, R.I.

Major lacrosse honors and camps: “Junior Varsity Defensive Player of the Year for freshman and sophomore year; Attended lacrosse camp at Salve and that’s what sealed the deal not only for me, but for them as well.”

Academic Honors: District High Honor Roll since sixth grade, National Honor Society

What will you major in/study? Considering Administration of Justice with a minor in a foreign language

Why did you choose Salve regina? “I liked the school because of its size. I prefer a school where I can know everyone. I liked the academic level that the school requires and Coach (Pat) Cooney informing me that no student of his has had to be suspended for academic reasons. That was a big one for me and my parents when deciding the best place for me.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for the season? “I feel that we will make the playoffs. I don’t know what happens from there. We have a couple players returning in late April that could make us a Cinderella team come the playoffs, which would be huge for this program. And if we don’t make the playoffs, it’s a busted season in my book, at least.”

Additional comments: “To add on to the Salve camp mentioned above. The coach saw my leadership not only on the field, but also in the dorm. It was a four-day sleep away camp and the coach was impressed with me making friends right away and setting up card games each night with a couple of the guys there.

“I would like to thank my parents so much for driving me to practice all the time back when I played youth league and paying for all that extra lacrosse over the summer. Can’t thank them enough.”
