The Panthers, who went 16-3 overall and 9-1 in the Northeast-10 last season, won the conference title game a year ago before advancing to the national championship game against Mercyhurst, where they were narrowly ousted, 9-8.
Adelphi brings back their top scorer in senior Joe Vitale (Lynbrook), who tallied 40 goals and 30 assists for 70 points last season while his 3.68 points per game mark was tops among Northeast-10 leaders. Merrimack (11-6, 6-4 NE-10) came in at No. 3 in the poll, receiving one first-place vote and 83 points overall. The Warriors came on strong at the end of the season last year before falling to Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Championship contest and were ranked No. 8 nationwide by Lacrosse Magazine. They will welcome back junior Corey Lunney after the midfielder led the team and was third in the Northeast-10 with 39 goals last season.
